Choose a Rectangle Canvas Size That Suits Your Photo
A bigger canvas does not always show more of your photo. Start with the image’s shape, then choose dimensions that suit your wall and the detail in the original file.
| Size in cm | Short : long side | A useful starting point |
|---|---|---|
| 20 × 30 cm | 2:3 | Small wall spaces, gifts and grouped displays. |
| 30 × 45 cm | 2:3 | A single portrait or a favourite everyday photograph. |
| 30 × 50 cm | 3:5 | A longer composition with room around the subject. |
| 40 × 50 cm | 4:5 | A fuller rectangle for close portraits and couples. |
| 40 × 60 cm | 2:3 | Family photos and landscape-orientation images. |
| 50 × 75 cm | 2:3 | A more prominent individual print. |
| 60 × 90 cm | 2:3 | A larger feature with a clear main subject. |
| 75 × 100 cm | 3:4 | A large display with a less elongated shape. |
| 80 × 120 cm | 2:3 | A spacious wall and a detailed original image. |
| 90 × 135 cm | 2:3 | A statement canvas; check wall space and file quality first. |
These sizes can be used in portrait or landscape orientation. The product selector shows the available dimensions and current price in NZD. Measure your wall and mark out the proposed size with removable paper before ordering.
Looking for a familiar photo size? The collection also includes 8x10, 11x14, 12x16 and 16x20 canvas prints. Imperial names use approximate metric equivalents; check each product’s centimetre option for the dimensions you are ordering.
Understand the Crop Before Choosing the Edges
Photo proportions and canvas wrap affect different parts of the result. Check both in your design preview.
The photo’s shape controls the front crop
A 40 × 60 cm canvas has a different shape from a 40 × 50 cm canvas. If the image and canvas proportions differ, filling the front face can crop the top, bottom or sides.
Match the canvas to your photo where possible. Reposition the image in the editor and make sure every face and important detail remains visible.
The wrap controls the canvas sides
- Gallery Wrap: the image continues around the sides. Allow extra space around important subjects.
- Mirror Wrap: reflected edge detail is used on the sides, helping preserve the front composition.
- Color Wrap: solid-colour sides give the canvas a clean edge finish.
Check the wrap options available for your selected product. See the canvas wrap guide for examples and colour requests.
Keep the two decisions separate: Mirror Wrap or Color Wrap can help protect the front image from being used on the sides. They do not automatically remove cropping caused by a different photo-to-canvas ratio.
Prepare Your Photo and Text for Printing
A clear source file and a well-spaced layout matter more than an image simply looking good on a small screen.
Use the best original file
Upload the original photo from your phone or camera where possible. Screenshots and copies downloaded from messaging apps or social media may contain less detail.
A tight crop leaves fewer pixels for printing. If you are planning a large canvas, check faces and fine details in the original image before enlarging it.

Give names and messages room
Add text in the online editor and choose a position with good contrast against the photo. Keep lettering comfortably inside the front face, away from the edges and fold lines.
Check spelling, dates and alignment at the final selected size. Small or very thin lettering can be less distinct on textured canvas.
The preview helps you check layout. Screen brightness and colour settings can make the printed result look slightly different.
A Finished Canvas for Your Wall
Your personalised image is printed onto canvas and stretched over an inner timber frame, ready to hang. The visible canvas sides create depth without requiring an outer picture frame.
A portrait rectangle works well for an individual, couple or standing figure. A landscape rectangle gives family groups and scenic photographs more horizontal space. If the original image is especially wide, compare panoramic canvas prints before cropping it into a standard rectangle. For a centred subject or balanced gallery arrangement, explore square canvas prints.
Prefer a border around the finished canvas? Browse floating frame canvas prints for prints with an outer frame. A floating frame is a different finish from the internal timber support of a standard stretched canvas.
Rectangle Canvas Prints FAQ
Practical answers about designing, ordering and delivery in New Zealand.
Can I preview my canvas and add text before ordering?
Yes. Open your chosen product and click Upload Photos & Design to edit the image, add text and preview the layout before adding it to your cart.
Can I use a photo from my phone?
Yes, if the file has enough detail for your chosen size and crop. Use the original photo. If you are unsure, send us the image and intended dimensions for advice.
Will the whole photo fit on the front of the canvas?
That depends on the photo’s proportions, canvas size and wrap. A different aspect ratio may need cropping, even with Mirror Wrap or Color Wrap. Check the front composition in the preview.
Does the canvas arrive ready to hang?
Yes. These stretched canvas prints are supplied on an inner timber frame for wall display. An outer floating frame is a separate product choice.
Where can I find the price for my size?
Select a product above to see its current NZD price and options. The canvas price guide also helps you compare sizes.
How much is New Zealand delivery, and how long does it take?
NZ delivery is NZ$9.95 per order. Many canvas orders arrive around 5–7 working days from full payment. Product, location, workload and courier conditions can affect timing. Contact us before ordering for a specific event date.
Can I request a size that is not listed?
Send us your required dimensions and we will confirm whether the size can be made and provide a quote.
